Bangkok: Police from the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) raided and arrested “Nicha,” a well-known online seller, for allegedly defrauding hundreds of victims by selling fake synthetic diamonds.
According to Thai News Agency, on December 19, 2025, a group of more than 10 victims met with investigators at the Crime Suppression Division to file a complaint against Ms. Nicha, 44. She was known for live-streaming the sale of designer handbags in Japan before switching to a Facebook page selling diamond jewelry, amassing over 110,000 followers.
The victims stated that they were deceived by Ms. Nicha due to her impressive profile and an award for outstanding businesswoman. Initially, she sent genuine diamonds to build trust, but later switched to sending lab-grown diamonds set in 9K gold instead of the advertised 18K, leading to a significant disparity in market value.
One victim, a real estate businessman, revealed the scam involved a buyback promotion offering full price plus a 5% profit 2-3 times a year. This led customers to believe they could wear the diamonds for free and make a profit. However, when attempting to sell them back, they found themselves unable to contact the vendor and were eventually blocked from all communication.
Yesterday, police from the CPPD executed an arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court and apprehended Ms. Nicha in the parking lot of a market in Pathum Thani Province. She was charged with serious offenses including conspiracy to defraud the public, introducing false information into a computer system, and advertising with false or misleading statements about the essential characteristics of a product. The suspect initially confessed to all charges.
Real diamonds, formed over millions of years beneath the Earth’s surface, are highly valuable and widely accepted in the international market. In contrast, lab-grown diamonds, though chemically and physically identical to natural ones, are created in a laboratory and have a significantly lower resale value.
