Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha was delighted to share good news that Thailand's Or Tor Kor Market was ranked among the world's best fresh market, and urged all fresh markets to use it as a model for improvement.
He advised all local administration organisations and the private sector which have their own fresh markets to use the Or Tor Kor fresh market model to improve their markets to the same standard.
This was revealed today by Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd after it was ranked fourth among the world's best fresh markets.
Lt Gen Gen Sansern said the prime minister was delighted to share the good news and wished that the Or Tor Kor market keeps consistency of its quality and standard.
The prime minister also urged all local administration organisations and the private sector which operate fresh markets to follow the Or Tor Kor market model to improve their markets to the same standard.
Or Tor Kor Market, run by the state-owned Marketing Organisation for Farmerxps, is well-known for its premium fresh fruit, vegetables and foods.
CNN said Or Tor Kor Market is packed with perfect produce and is full of exotic fruits and vegetables that are unique to Thailand, as well as imported specialties from around Asia.
It said Or Tor Kor Market, near the famous Chatuchak Weekend Market, was also cited for being well lit, allowing buyers to easily shop for seafood, sweets and cooked foods.
The market also offers a wide selection of prepared curry pastes and spices to take back home, and a food court filled with Thai specialties, CNN said.
CNN selected La Boqueria Market in Barcelona, Spain, as the best fresh market, followed by Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, and Union Square Farmer's Market in New York City, Thailand's Or Tor Kor Market was fourth, St Lawrence Market in Toronto, Canada was fifth; followed by Borough Market in London; Kreta Ayer Wet Market in Singapore; Lancaster Central Market in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, US; the Marche Provencal in Antibes, France; and Kowloon City Wet Market, Hong Kong.
