Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha assured today (Tuesday) that the Chinese submarine deal was above board and transparent and the Yuan-class S26T submarine itself was reliable.
He insisted that the purchase of the Chinese submarine was in accordance with procurement procedure with several suppliers entering the bid and specifications specified in the TOR.
Many people suspected that there might be corruption involved, but I could assure you that there wasn't any like that. We only hope that our force has armaments which are reliable and workable, said the prime minister.
He noted that the submarine had to be reliable and safe otherwise its crew members would be at great risk.
Referring to the Royal Thai Navy's clarification of the submarine deal on Monday, the prime minister claimed that no country would ever do the way the RTN did which gave away too much information to the media.
