Bangkok: Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, expressed strong confidence in the potential realization of “Disneyland Thailand,” a transformative project within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
According to Thai News Agency, Pipat emphasized that the initiative is more than just a dream, advocating for its development into a world-class entertainment and lifestyle hub. His plans include leveraging the EEC’s existing infrastructure to support major concerts and sporting events, steering the region into a global entertainment hub without incorporating casinos.
Pipat, overseeing the EEC, addressed both the feasibility and strategic planning necessary for the proposed “Disneyland” project. He highlighted that Thailand has the potential to host such a large-scale endeavor, which is projected to include a world-class concert hall and sports stadium designed to accommodate up to 80,000 spectators. This facility aims to host international events, further reinforcing Thailand’s capacity to attract global attention. He confirmed that relevant EEC agencies have commenced preliminary studies, with the project likely to employ a Public-Private Partnership model. This approach will integrate global expertise and investment, alongside stringent government oversight.
The Disneyland Thailand initiative is envisioned not only as an amusement park but as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and the enhancement of Thailand’s international profile. Pipat stressed that this development would be pivotal in showcasing the talents of young Thais on a global stage, advancing the country’s standing in music and sports tourism. The project promises to create a continuous influx of world-class artists, sports fans, and tourists, enhancing the country’s appeal as a year-round destination.
Pipat further elaborated on the strategic importance of this development, describing it as an opportunity to bolster Thailand’s creative industries and tourism. He argued that the real question lies not in the feasibility of a Disneyland in Thailand, but in the leadership needed to see it through to completion. Pipat asserted that continuity is essential for the success of such world-class projects, committing that he and the Bhumjaithai Party will ensure its realization if they lead the government.
Insider sources indicate that the framework for the Disneyland project in the EEC has progressed beyond conceptualization, with a roadmap for implementation already partially established. If the next administration undertakes this project, it will have the advantage of building on existing EEC structures and laws, facilitating swift progress. Pipat’s track record, particularly his role in the Phuket Sandbox model during the COVID-19 crisis, underscores his capability to drive tourism initiatives that revive and elevate Thailand’s global standing. The Disneyland Thailand project, with strategic vision and effective execution, is poised to transform this vision into reality.
