Pickup Truck Plunges Into Canal During Police Chase in Bang Bua Thong


Bang bua thong: A suspected pickup truck was chased by highway police after it sped off and fell into the Lam Ree Canal in Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province. The driver managed to swim away with a large bag, eluding capture.



According to Thai News Agency, the incident began at 10:00 a.m. when police at Bang Bua Thong Police Station received a report from highway patrol officers about a suspicious vehicle. The pickup truck, traveling from Kanchanaphisek Road towards Bang Bua Thong District, was stopped for inspection but suddenly sped off. The driver lost control and the vehicle plunged into the Lam Ree Canal in Lahan Subdistrict, Nonthaburi Province.



Following the chase, officers inspected the scene along the canal and arranged for a tow truck to retrieve the submerged vehicle. Initial investigations revealed that the pickup truck was white, but the driver had fled the scene. The vehicle was taken to Bang Bua Thong Police Station, where officers found only two mobile phones inside. No illegal items were discovered, though all items were seized as evidence for further investigation. Authorities plan to issue summonses for questioning and will proceed with legal action if any wrongdoing is confirmed.



Eyewitnesses, local villagers, recounted their encounter with the incident. They were on their way to cut grass when they noticed the police chase. As the highway police signaled for assistance, the villagers quickly turned around to help. Upon reaching the scene, they saw a ten-wheeler truck parked across the road to block the suspected vehicle’s path. In an attempt to evade the obstacle, the driver swerved and ended up in the canal. The driver then swam to the opposite bank, escaping with a large black bag.
