Chachoengsao: A 61-year-old man narrowly escaped severe injury when his pickup truck was struck by a freight train at a railway crossing in front of Sakae Dod Prachasan School, Bang Nam Priao District. The vehicle sustained significant damage in the incident, while the driver, Mr. Wirat Thammasin, suffered a head injury.
According to Thai News Agency, the accident occurred as Mr. Wirat attempted to navigate the crossing. The barrier was in the process of lowering, which obscured his view of the oncoming train. The freight train, traveling from Map Ta Phut in Rayong Province to Kaeng Khoi Station in Saraburi Province, collided with the rear of the truck, sending it spinning and dragging it along the tracks. The force of the impact tore off the tailgate of the vehicle.
Local police and rescue teams from Chachoengsao Police Station arrived promptly at the scene to conduct an investigation and offer assistance. Eyewitnesses managed to extract Mr. Wirat from the mangled vehicle. He was provided with immediate first aid by rescue workers before being transported to Bang Nam Priao Hospital for further treatment.
Mr. Wirat recounted the events leading up to the collision, explaining that he had just dropped off his daughter and was returning along the same route. He noted that while crossing the railway tracks, he looked to his right but failed to notice the train approaching from the left. Investigators plan to visit Bang Nam Priao Hospital to conduct further interviews with Mr. Wirat to ascertain more details about the accident and determine any necessary legal actions.
