Phuket: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture announced that preparations for the "Thailand Biennale Phuket" are 70% complete. This grand international contemporary art festival is aimed at enhancing Thailand's global image and reputation while stimulating the economy by over 30 billion baht.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasop Riangngen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, provided updates regarding the progress of the Thailand Biennale, Phuket 2025. Following a site inspection on November 8-9, accompanied by key figures such as Ms. Kesorn Kamnerdpetch, Director of the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC), and Mr. Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, among others, it was confirmed that the site preparation and installation of artworks are over 70% complete.
Mr. Prasop emphasized the dedication of various sectors including government agencies, the private sector, artists, and the people of Phuket, noting their collective efforts as a positive indicator for the success of this world-class event. Scheduled to run from late November 2025 to the end of April 2026, the Biennale will feature over 65 key artists and groups from Thailand and abroad, with artworks displayed across 19 exhibition spaces and 13 exhibition pavilions throughout Phuket.
The event will feature a diverse range of contemporary art, complemented by music, performance art, talks, workshops, and community initiatives, allowing both residents and tourists to engage with art in their daily lives. Thai and international artists are beginning to arrive in Phuket to create and install their works, with some scheduled to debut from the opening ceremony and others unveiling progressively throughout the event.
Additionally, permanent artworks will be established in Phuket as a lasting cultural heritage, including public sculptures at Saphan Hin and other key tourist sites. Collaborative efforts by Phuket Province's governor, government agencies, local businesses, and residents are underway, with preparations including area landscaping and public relations initiatives to welcome tourists. Hospitality and service sectors are also gearing up to host visitors.
Mr. Prasop expressed confidence that the Thailand Biennale Phuket will be a proud achievement for the nation, aligning with the government's policy to boost the tourism economy. This initiative supports Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Minister of Culture's key policy, which aims to promote Thai identity and cultural capital on an international scale through contemporary art and culture.
The OCAC anticipates that the Biennale will attract no less than 3 million visitors and generate at least 30 billion baht in economic activity within Phuket and the surrounding areas.
