Permanent Secretary Addresses Corruption Scandal in Local Government Exam Cheating

Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has confirmed that the investigation into corruption involving civil servants who cheated on local government exams implicates numerous individuals. He expressed no concern about potential lawsuits against him, as he believes all parties involved have acted with honesty and integrity.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, commented on the ongoing scandal, stating that the investigation committee is expected to reach a conclusion by July 15th. He addressed the arrest of Mr. Win (surname withheld), a suspect in the cheating case who fled to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, noting that the legal process has been rigorous. An investigation is currently underway to identify all parties involved. The Ministry of Interior is tasked with probing serious disciplinary offenses, while the police are examining financial transactions, evidence, and witness testimonies. The arrested individual is also implicated by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). Mr. Sampanrat emphasized that all parties are diligently performing their duties, with the case ultimately to be resolved through legal channels.

The investigation is actively uncovering those involved in the corruption, with steps being taken to identify and act against implicated individuals. Additional groups may be implicated depending on the ongoing police investigation.

The Ministry of Interior is fulfilling its responsibilities, and the NACC will manage matters outside its purview. Additional arrest warrants may be issued if new evidence emerges, and appointments of implicated civil servants may be revoked.
