Bangkok: The People's Party has voted to reject the 2016 Budget Bill during its third reading, citing a failure by the government to implement recommended changes. The party emphasized the potential for reducing, omitting, or postponing numerous projects to reserve funds for managing the country's economic crisis.
According to Thai News Agency, the People's Party, under the leadership of Ms. Sirikanya Tansakul, a party-list MP and deputy leader, expressed their decision to oppose the 2026 Budget Bill at its third reading. Despite providing careful consideration and consistent feedback aimed at preparing the budget for future challenges, the suggestions made by the party were not integrated into any changes by the government or the majority committee.
Ms. Sirikanya highlighted the presence of unnecessary budget allocations, suggesting that these projects could be adjusted to preserve funds for emergencies and economic crises. She stated, "Ultimately, we remain a minority in Parliament, preventing us from amending even a single measure of the budget. This is why, in the third reading, the People's Party will insist on rejecting and rejecting the 2016 budget."
