People’s Party Accuses Election Commission of Improper Conduct in Senate Election Case

Bangkok: The People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) has raised allegations against the Election Commission, claiming potential misconduct in the execution of its duties. The controversy focuses on the handling of a significant Senate election fraud case, which the PDRC suggests may have involved malfeasance or negligence. According to Thai News Agency, leaders of the People's Party have expressed concerns over the Election Commission's decision to indict only 26 senators out of 77 involved in a collusion case. The decision to exclude other political office holders from indictment raises questions about the thoroughness and fairness of the investigation. The People's Party argues that this selective indictment hinders the possibility of holding the majority of the accused accountable in the Supreme Court, despite substantial evidence indicating the occurrence of fraud. Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party, has described the Senate election fraud case as one of the most significant s candals in Thai political history. Evidence such as vote-buying slips, voting records, financial trails, audio recordings, meetings at vote-buying centers, and telephone conversation records all suggest serious wrongdoing. The People's Party contends that the Election Commission's actions, or lack thereof, represent an abuse of power or dereliction of duty, violating both legal principles and the Commission's historical standards. The People's Party further claims that the Commission's conduct contravenes official duties under the Organic Act on the Election Commission B.E. 2560 (2017). The allegations against the Election Commission suggest a need for closer scrutiny of its decision-making processes in this high-profile case.
