Pattaya: The organizers of the Pattaya Marathon 2026 have announced their preparedness to host the marathon on September 26-27, with a record-breaking 21,727 participants from 58 countries registered for the event. This marks the highest number of registrations in the marathon's 33-year history, establishing it as the third most-attended running event in the country and the leading event in the Eastern region.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Naris Niramaiwong, Governor of Chonburi Province, presided over the press conference, emphasizing the marathon's significance as a major mass sporting event in the region. The event is not only a tradition but also a key annual attraction for Chonburi Province. The Governor highlighted plans to elevate the competition to a world-class level, which aligns with Pattaya City's goal of making the marathon a top draw for tourists in Thailand.
Mr. Parames Ngampicheth, Mayor of Pattaya, explained that the marathon was postponed due to the mayoral election, which coincided with the original race date. Following his successful re-election, preparations resumed swiftly, with Thailand Tri League, a leading organizer, handling the event. Registration sold out within two hours, signaling overwhelming interest from the global running community. The marathon's robust infrastructure and tourist appeal have helped solidify its status as the premier running event in the Eastern region.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Pongphan Wongmanithet, Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, assured attendees of comprehensive safety and traffic management plans. Collaborations with Pattaya City Police Station have resulted in detailed traffic strategies to ensure seamless event execution. Road closures will be in effect during the competition, and further details will be communicated by Pattaya City Public Relations.
Mr. Weerapong Pongsawat, Deputy Director of Event Management at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, noted Pattaya City's potential as a leading tourist destination. The marathon is expected to generate over 288 million baht in revenue for Pattaya and Chonburi Province. TAT is committed to supporting the marathon, which is anticipated to enhance the city's prestige and attract a significant number of tourists.
Mr. Kobkiat Saengwanich, CEO of Thailand Tri League and event director, expressed surprise at the rapid registration pace and highlighted the marathon's new chapter with its record-breaking participation. The race route will offer scenic runs along Pattaya's beaches and city, with Terminal 21 Shopping Mall serving as the start and finish point.
The Pattaya Marathon 2026 will take place over two days, accommodating various race categories and attracting a total of 39,323 runners and spectators from around the world. Race kits and bib numbers will be available for collection from September 24, 2026, at Terminal 21 Shopping Mall.
