People in some northern and northeastern provinces have organized their parallel charity runs in their respective provinces in order to raise fund to help Toon Bodyslam's charity run.
In Khon Kaen, one of the 11 hospitals eligible to receive funding from Toon's fund-raising campaign, more than six million baht were raised from people in the province in a seven-kilometre parallel run organized on Saturday by the provincial administration and the residents.
Khon Kaen governor Somsak Joengtrakul said that, since Khon Kaen was among the 11 recipients of the funding from Toon's charity run, he found it appropriate for the province to support the charity runb by organizing it was own fund-raising run as well.
A large number of people lined up the 7-kilometre running route in the municipal area to cheer the runners and to make donations.
In Hangchat district of Lampang, district officer Vitit Panyakhom and local administration leaders staged a walkathon to rains fund from residents in the district in support for Toon's noble cause, although Lampang was not included in Toon's running route.
In Nan province, Governor Paisal Wimonrat led over 1,000 people and officials in a charity run and walk in the Muang district.
The governor said that the event was not only intended to raise fund to join Toon's fund-raising effort but also to encourage the people to take care of their health by exercising on regular basis in order to reduce medical costs.
About 2.2 million baht in donations were received on the one-day event on Saturday.
