Paradorn Prisnanantakul Advances Khaosan Sandbox to Combat Bribery

Bangkok:Paradorn Prisnanantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, is advancing the "Khaosan Sandbox" initiative to tackle bribery among government officials, particularly those facilitating illegal entertainment venues. This project aims to tighten control and address these issues, with expectations to enter the judicial process within 30 days.

According to Thai News Agency, the Sub-Committee on Anti-Bribery and Corruption Risk Management in the Public Sector recently convened to discuss the ongoing problem of bribery. Notably, recent raids on entertainment venues, including those in Rayong province led by Deputy Minister of Interior Polpeera Suwannachawi, have highlighted the issue. The committee has tasked the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) with collaborating with the Bangkok Metropolitan Police and Administration to explore viable solutions.

A key focus of the initiative is to identify and address legal loopholes that facilitate bribery, particularly in the Building Act and the Business Establishment Act. By rectifying these issues, the government aims to eliminate opportunities for corruption. Paradorn emphasized the importance of pinpointing these obstacles and amending regulations as necessary. If required, the government will draft amendments or submit them through political parties for faster implementation.

In line with the "One Department, One Transparent and Unbiased" policy, 13 pilot agencies have proposed strategies to implement this significant government policy. Paradorn has directed the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC), along with the NACC, to ensure the policy's swift application across government agencies.

Regarding a recent raid on a KTV entertainment venue, where government officials were implicated in bribery, Paradorn mentioned discussing potential disciplinary and criminal actions with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner. A committee from each relevant agency will investigate disciplinary actions, while the NACC will handle criminal charges. Paradorn has urged the NACC to expedite these cases, aiming to resolve offenses within 30 days, ensuring that justice is served promptly.
