South Korea will operate a temporary consular office in Paris to assist its nationals during the Olympics period, the foreign ministry said Tuesday. The office, to be set up at the South Korean Embassy in France, will operate for 20 days starting on Wednesday (local time) until Aug. 12, a day after the closing ceremony. The office will focus on preventing incidents involving nationals, providing consular assistance in case of emergencies, and establishing cooperative relations with French law enforcement authorities. The government has previously established temporary consular offices during major sporting events like the Olympics and World Cup to provide consular support and ensure the safety of its citizens. "Given the current unstable international situation and the conditions in the Middle East, we have paid extra attention to anti-terrorism measures," a ministry official said on the condition of anonymity.
