Hat yai: The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) and the insurance industry are preparing to assess the damage from flooding in the southern region. Claims have been filed against 1,258 vehicles and over 506 other properties. Ms. Wasumdee Wasinon, Deputy Secretary-General for the Regulation of Intermediaries and Regional Insurance, revealed that due to the flooding situation in several southern provinces, with Songkhla Province being the most affected, with over 320,887 households affected, the OIC and the insurance industry have joined forces to provide assistance to the public, entrepreneurs, and industries affected by the floods, particularly in Hat Yai District.
According to Thai News Agency, the latest insurance damage data as of November 26, 2025, indicates that insurance companies received damage reports from residents in Songkhla Province. Initially, 1,258 vehicles were damaged and over 506 other properties were damaged. Previously, the OIC, in collaboration with insurance companies, implemented preventative measures for policyholders, such as advising policyholders to move their property to higher ground and using forklifts and tow trucks to move vehicles above the water level. These measures were intended to provide initial assistance to policyholders and the public. The flooding has exceeded previous damage estimates, and damage to vehicles and property is expected to be greater.
As for assistance measures from the insurance sector, they are being continuously delivered to those affected in the South. The OIC and insurance companies have deployed additional personnel from other areas to assist and facilitate disaster relief efforts, including claim notification, vehicle towing, vehicle storage, disaster surveys, and the distribution of relief packages and consumer goods. Furthermore, the OIC, through its Insurance Center for Disaster Management and Cooperation (ICD), in collaboration with the insurance industry, has implemented urgent measures to assist policyholders and the public.
The OIC office in Songkhla was among the agencies that had to close due to floodwaters that made it impossible to operate. Backup centers have been set up at the OIC offices in Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces. Therefore, the public can contact open insurance companies or local OIC offices, including the OIC hotline at 1186. You can also check your insurance policy via the LINE account OICconnect.
The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) and the insurance industry would like to offer support to the people of Southern Thailand and other regions currently affected by the floods. They are prepared to be a key agency in providing comprehensive insurance coverage and urge the public to rest easy knowing that they are not concerned about filing insurance claims. This is to ensure that all sectors can safely overcome this crisis and recover from the social and economic damage as quickly as possible.
