Chaiyaphum: No miracles, the body of a 59-year-old local government organization member was found after being swept away by a flash flood into Huai Farang, where he died while trying to drive a pickup truck through the fast-flowing water.
According to Thai News Agency, after heavy and continuous rain in Chaiyaphum Province, flash floods from the Phang Heo Mountain Range overflowed into Huai Farang Stream, Watabaek Subdistrict, Thep Sathit District. The muddy red flash flood overflowed onto the road connecting Ban Huai Farang, Village No. 4, to Ban Dong Lan, Village No. 11, causing challenges for small vehicles attempting the crossing. In the middle of the night, a tragic incident occurred when Mr. Somsorn, 59 years old, a member of the Tambon Administrative Organization of Ban Dong Lan, Village No. 11, was swept into a deep ravine of Huai Farang Stream while trying to navigate the current in his pickup truck.
Officers conducted a thorough search and discovered Mr. Somsorn's 4-door Ford pickup truck lodged on rocks over 2 meters underwater. Attempts to retrieve the vehicle using a pulley were hindered by the strong current and the rocks. At that point, it was unclear whether the missing individual remained inside the vehicle.
By 12:00 noon, rescue workers located Mr. Somsorn's body approximately 700 meters from the vehicle's location, trapped on a log under a rock. The team collaborated to bring the body to shore and transported it for an autopsy at Thepsathit Hospital.
Mr. Somchai, 58 years old, also a member of the Tambon Administrative Organization, Village No. 4, Ban Huai Frang, recounted that prior to the incident, he and Mr. Somsue attended a funeral in the same area. Following the heavy rain, they drove around to ensure all friends were safely on their way before Mr. Somsue began his journey home. Mr. Somchai advised caution regarding the water, yet did not anticipate such a tragic outcome.
