Bangkok: Nine sports associations aim to win 35 gold medals at the 2025 SEA Games, marking their participation in the Meet the Press SEA Games for the sixth time. A total of 38 associations are targeting a combined 164 gold medals.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pallop Sripaiwan, Secretary-General of the Sports Photographers Association of Thailand, presided over the 6th SEA Games 2025 Press Meet. The event was attended by executives and representatives from nine sports associations, including boxing, jiu-jitsu, tug-of-war, petanque, wushu, air sports and aviation, mixed martial arts, frisbee, and amateur Muay Thai.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaiwat Chotima, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Thailand Boxing Association, expressed confidence in winning no fewer than nine gold medals. He stated that all 17 boxers are well-prepared, viewing the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam as their main competitors. Competing on home soil in Thailand is expected to boost the athletes' confidence.
General Mangkorn Kosintharaseni, Chairman of the Petanque Central Committee, shared that despite recent challenges, the athletes are ready and committed to delivering strong performances. The team includes world champion players, and with 11 events in the SEA Games, he is optimistic about securing at least four gold medals.
The other associations have also set their medal targets. Jiu-jitsu aims for 10 gold medals, wushu for 2, and Muay Thai for 10. Tug-of-war aims for the best results, while in demonstration sports, air sports targets 2 gold medals, MMA 1, and frisbee 1, contributing to the collective goal of 164 gold medals across 38 associations.
