Phuket:A large number of people dressed in white lined the streets to welcome the procession of the deity "Mae Si Iew Keng" during the Phuket Vegetarian Festival.
According to Thai News Agency, the Phuket Shrine Association organized this nighttime procession, which involved devotees from 40 shrines across the province. The event took place on October 11th and was a demonstration of the power of faith, as participants gathered to celebrate the traditional ceremony.
Along the procession route, attendees set up altars, prepared offerings, and lit firecrackers. The atmosphere was lively with the continuous sound of drums and firecrackers, while participants showed reverence by clasping their hands together in greeting.
The nighttime procession is a significant part of the Vegetarian Festival tradition in Phuket, embodying the beliefs of Thai people of Chinese descent. It involves carrying deities and sacred objects in a procession, allowing the public to engage in worship and receive blessings. The event also serves as an opportunity for various shrines to maintain the tradition and showcase community unity.
Before the parade commenced at Saphan Hin in Mueang Phuket District, Mr. Chotinrin Kerdsum, Governor of Phuket Province, led a ceremony honoring His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn. The ceremony included offering blessings and a traditional Thai puppetry performance as a tribute.
The gathering of 40 temples for this procession not only provided a spectacular sight for locals and tourists but also highlighted the cultural heritage, faith, and unity of Phuket's people in preserving the Vegetarian Festival tradition for future generations.
