NBTC Destroys 750 Illegal Radio Communication Devices

Bangkok: The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has taken decisive action by destroying 750 illegal radio communication devices.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Trairat Wiriyasirikul, Deputy Secretary-General and Acting Secretary-General of the NBTC, announced the destruction of these confiscated items. The items, which include Wi-Fi routers, were seized for violations of the Customs Act and the Radio Communications Act and were destroyed following a final court judgment. The destruction took place at the 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, Royal Guard. These devices had not undergone the NBTC's required inspection and certification, as no manufacturer's Supplier's Declaration of Conformity was submitted for domestic sale. The lack of compliance with radio frequency requirements, electrical safety standards, and radiation exposure test reports posed potential risks of interference and user safety.

The destruction process was conducted by crushing the devices, with assistance from the 1st Engineer Battalion, to prevent any possibility of reuse or resale, ensuring public safety and proper use of radio frequencies.

Consumers are advised to purchase telecommunication equipment such as Wi-Fi routers, CCTV cameras, and mobile phones from reliable and licensed vendors. Verification of the equipment's certification is recommended via the NBTC's official website. When shopping online, checking seller reviews and credentials, and maintaining records of transactions are advised to avoid substandard or illegal products.

The NBTC also reminds businesses involved in the import and sale of radio communication equipment to strictly adhere to the relevant laws.
