Bangkok: "Corruption in the Senate" is the root cause of the country's monopolization, stated Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, during the Leaders of the Opposition forum. He urged politicians to unite in overcoming significant challenges and emphasized the Election Commission's responsibility to forward the "Senate collusion" case to the Supreme Court.
According to Thai News Agency, Nattapong inaugurated the forum under the theme "Thai Politics in a Crisis of Confidence: The Truth Society Demands Answers To." He highlighted a crisis of public trust in Thai politics, linked to the scrutiny of the Senate selection process. The event marked the 100th day since he first exposed the "blue regime," characterized by a perceived lack of democracy and monopolization of power.
Nattapong asserted that the regime's independent organizations, appointed by potentially corrupt Senate members linked to the ruling party, are undermining democratic processes. He cited comments by Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong at a recent forum, emphasizing that Senate corruption is the foundation of nationwide corruption.
Nattapong called for collaboration between opposition and ruling party members to advocate for a democratic political system. He urged a deeper reflection on the challenges of prosecuting Senate fraud due to conflicts of interest within the Election Commission, where a majority of members were selected from the current Senate.
Despite the complexities, Nattapong expressed optimism, believing that political efforts can transform the seemingly impossible into reality. He emphasized the importance of forums like this in progressing society beyond outdated legal frameworks.
Nattapong reiterated the Election Commission's role in forwarding Senate fraud cases to the Supreme Court, noting the postponement of a related case to September 14th as an opportunity to challenge the status quo.
