Narathiwat Tea Shop Bombing Claims Life of 79-Year-Old Grandmother

Bangkok: A 79-year-old woman, a victim of a bombing at a tea shop in Yi-ngo District, Narathiwat Province, has died. Relatives say she had saved up all her life for the Hajj pilgrimage, but a single bomb took her life and her dreams away in a brutal way.

According to Thai News Agency, following the bombing of a tea shop in a community in Yi Ngo District, Narathiwat Province, on the morning of October 16th, one of the seriously injured, 79-year-old Ms. Romoh, died early this morning after struggling with the pain of the bomb wound for two full days. Ms. Roma, the deceased, underwent surgery above the knee on her left leg, including a one-meter section of her small intestine and a 30-centimeter section of her large intestine. However, due to her advanced age and the severe shrapnel wounds sustained in vital areas, doctors were unable to save her life.

Relatives of the deceased revealed in a trembling voice that the grandmother had been saving up her entire life to go on the Hajj pilgrimage in April of next year. She had already paid a deposit of over 100,000 baht. She was overjoyed and told every day that she would make the pilgrimage before her death. The 100,000 baht was the result of her hard work and dedication over decades, selling seaweed for 5 or 10 baht each to fulfill her ultimate dream of making a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. But her lifelong dream was taken away by the force of a single bomb in a split second, while the grandmother was sitting just 10 meters from the bomb.

The funeral ceremony for Ms. Roma was held today at 1:00 PM at the Juang Nga Cemetery in Ban Buke Palas, Village No. 4, Yi-ngo Subdistrict. The atmosphere was filled with sadness, with relatives, both close and from other areas, coming to pay their respects and offer support to the family, as they joined together to send Ms. Roma off for the last time.
