Narathiwat Floods Impact Over 100,000 Residents, Hat Yai on Alert.

Narathiwat: Flooding in Narathiwat Province has severely impacted 13 districts, affecting over 100,000 people and resulting in the closure of more than 60 schools. The situation has been exacerbated by heavy rainfall causing the Bang Nara River, Sai Buri River, and Kolok River to overflow, inundating agricultural areas and homes. In the districts of Ra-ngae, Rueso, Waeng, and Su-ngai Kolok alone, more than 42,000 households, or approximately 150,000 people, are experiencing significant disruption. According to Thai News Agency, 68 schools have been forced to close temporarily due to high water levels, and students face challenges in commuting as some roads have become impassable. Passenger van services from Su-ngai Kolok District to four southern border provinces have also been suspended until further notice due to flood-affected roads. In three districts of Narathiwat, six roads remain completely severed, complicating transportation and relief efforts. In neighboring Songkhla Province, Hat Yai District is on high alert. Concerns are rising over potential flooding in Hat Yai City as persistent heavy rains continue to impact the upstream areas, including Sadao District. Local authorities have been monitoring the U-Tapao and R.1 Canals, where water levels have risen significantly. Although the U-Tapao Canal has been marked with a green flag, indicating relative safety, parts of the R.1 Canal are under a yellow flag warning. In the Hat Yai Municipality area, nine communities have received yellow flag warnings, leading to the temporary closure of six schools under municipal administration. The situation remains unpredictable, prompting continuous monitoring and precautionary measures to safeguard residents.
