Nam Yuen District Chief Offers Financial Support to Families Affected by Border Unrest


Nam yuen: The Nam Yuen District Chief has extended financial assistance to families affected by recent unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border, offering support to those who suffered losses in the conflict. During a meeting with relevant agencies, the District Chief addressed the needs of families impacted by the turmoil in three subdistricts, where fatalities and injuries occurred.

According to Thai News Agency, the situation in Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, has stabilized following an extraordinary meeting of the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) in Malaysia. The committee agreed on a 13-point ceasefire, allowing residents to gradually return to their homes. Many had previously evacuated due to safety concerns.

In response to the conflict, the Nam Yuen District Chief coordinated with government and related agencies to assess and address relief efforts for affected residents. The conflict resulted in one death, seven injuries, and damage to 43 homes and three educational institut
ions. Additionally, nearly 60 BM-21 rockets were discovered in the area, with two more reported in Dom Pradit and Si Wichian Subdistricts.

Financial aid totaling 55,600 baht has been distributed to the families of the deceased and injured. Ms. Hong, a Lao national who died in the incident, will receive 29,700 baht for funeral expenses. This initial assistance is separate from additional funds approved by the Cabinet. Despite these efforts, the District Chief emphasized that the area has not been officially declared safe, urging residents to stay vigilant and follow updates.

Mr. On Sri, the son of the deceased Ms. Hong, expressed gratitude for the support received. He shared the emotional impact of the incident, noting that his father, who was also injured, remains in critical condition. The financial assistance will help cover funeral expenses for his mother.

mpacted by the unrest. Residents are encouraged to remain cautious and report any suspicious findings or unexploded ammunition to authorities.
