MRT Lines in Thailand Extend Operating Hours for New Year 2026

Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport and the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) are spreading New Year cheer by extending operating hours on four MRT lines.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Transport and the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) are extending the operating hours of four MRT lines until 2:00 AM and extending the opening hours of terminal buildings and parking lots to facilitate the public on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day 2026.

Mr. Kajphan Udomthamphakdi, Governor of the Mass Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), stated that this extension is a New Year gift for 2026 under the concept of "HNY 2569 - Happiness of All: Happy travels on every route; Network of Care: Systematic and comprehensive care; Year of Safety: A year of safety on the roads and in all journeys." The initiative aims to facilitate the public, reduce costs, increase travel options, and show gratitude for the continued use of the government's transportation system throughout the year.

The Ministry, MRTA, and the concessionaires of the four Bangkok Metropolitan Rail lines - Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) operating the MRT Blue Line and the MRT Purple Line; Eastern Bangkok Monorail Company Limited (EBM) operating the MRT Yellow Line; and Northern Bangkok Monorail Company Limited (NBM) operating the MRT Pink Line - will extend the closing time of MRT Purple, Blue, Yellow, and Pink Lines from midnight on December 31, 2025, to 02:00 on January 1, 2026. The last train will depart from its originating/terminating station at 02:00.

Parking facilities for the MRT Purple and Blue Lines, the Orange Line MRT project, the Green Line Skytrain, and the MRT Yellow and Pink Lines will be available with varying operating hours to accommodate the public, some of which will offer free services during the specified times.

Additionally, the MRTA has instructed all concessionaires to prepare measures to accommodate public travel, including providing additional trains, disseminating information regarding train operating hours, preparing station staff for duty, setting up special lanes for ticket purchases, and preparing safety measures around stations and park-and-ride facilities.
