Bangkok:Contestants from over 100 countries participating in Miss Global and Mister Global 2026 gathered at the Thailand Cultural Centre to learn about "Royal Thai Traditional Dresses and Royal-granted Shirts." This event, organized by the National Cultural Promotion Department, aligns with Minister Sabida's policy to highlight Thailand's cultural heritage on a global platform.
According to Thai News Agency, the event took place on October 5, 2026, and aimed to deepen the contestants' understanding of Thailand's cultural identity. Minister Sabida emphasized the importance of not only admiring the beauty of Thai traditional attire but also appreciating the cultural stories and values they embody. She expressed hope that the participants would share these insights upon returning to their home countries.
Ms. Chotika Akrakitsobhakul, Director-General of the Department of Cultural Promotion, highlighted that the reception was a significant opportunity to introduce "Thai culture" to the world. She noted that Thai costumes are rich with historical significance and craftsmanship, serving as a reflection of Thailand's unique identity.
The event featured expert speakers, including Ms. Nachanok Wongkhaluang from the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, who lectured on the history and evolution of Thai clothing, including the "Eight Royal-Approved Thai Dress Styles" and the "Three Royal-Granted Blouse Styles."
Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, played a crucial role in adapting traditional Thai clothing styles with modern tailoring techniques, resulting in the "Royal Thai Dress." This initiative provided Thai women with a formal national costume suitable for international representation. Similarly, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great introduced the "Royal bestowed shirt" for men, designed to be both comfortable and appropriate for Thailand's climate.
The event was more than a cultural showcase; it aimed to create a meaningful cultural experience, encouraging participants to become storytellers of Thai culture. The Department of Cultural Promotion envisions such activities as essential in communicating the deeper values of Thai culture, fostering international exchange, and developing Thailand's cultural presence globally.
