Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport is actively engaging in discussions with Tesla to promote advancements in electric vehicle (EV) technology and human resource development, aiming for a tangible transition to clean energy transportation systems. Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Minister of Transport, recently met with Ms. Hadri Haris, Lead Public Affairs (SEA Region) of Tesla (Thailand) Co., Ltd., to exchange information and explore potential areas of cooperation in Thailand's electric vehicle sector.
According to Thai News Agency, the government, through the Ministry of Transport, is committed to facilitating the public's transition to electric vehicles, recognizing their potential to reduce travel costs and benefit the environment. The government is also prioritizing the shift of public transportation systems to electric vehicles, including minibuses, taxis, trucks, and rail systems. This transition will be supported through regulatory enhancements, the development of related standards, and the EV 3.5 support plan (2024-2027) to bolster the adoption of electric vehicles and instill confidence in the sector's growth in Thailand.
Discussions also focused on collaborating with Tesla's engineering experts to share knowledge on electric vehicle inspections and related equipment. This partnership is expected to play a vital role in enhancing the skills of the Department of Land Transport's personnel, ensuring that electric vehicles meet safety standards. The Ministry is open to working with other companies to further develop their capabilities and improve inspection standards to be more comprehensive and efficient.
Tesla provides a wide range of products and technologies, including various electric vehicle models, advanced driver assistance systems, full self-driving systems, high-speed charging stations, and the "Tesla Ecosystem" concept. This ecosystem integrates electric vehicle technology, clean energy, and artificial intelligence to support carbon reduction, improve transportation safety, and foster the future growth of Thailand's electric vehicle industry.
Mr. Siripong emphasized that this collaboration marks a crucial step in fostering cooperation between public and private sectors to advance the use of electric vehicles, clean energy, and human resource development. Such efforts are expected to enhance Thailand's transportation system, making it safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly, ultimately leading to a tangible transition to clean energy transportation.
