Ministry of Interior Set to Propose 5 Billion Baht Flood Relief Budget.

Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior is preparing to propose a substantial flood relief budget of 5 billion baht to the Cabinet for approval today. This initiative aims to provide financial compensation to victims of recent floods in the southern provinces. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phasakorn Boonyalak, the Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), announced that the Ministry of Interior plans to submit the proposed budget to the Flood, Storm, and Landslide Relief Operation Center (FLOOC) before presenting it to the Cabinet. The proposal is designed to offer relief to flood victims, with an initial budget allocation exceeding 5 billion baht. The funds are intended to compensate affected households across all impacted provinces, adhering to established criteria that have been applied in past regional disasters. The compensation is capped at a maximum of 9,000 baht per household. The damage assessment process categorizes the disaster impact into two primary criteri a: flash flooding with property damage and flooding duration not exceeding seven days, and cases where the flooding persists for more than seven days.
