Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior has mandated all provinces to compile detailed records of drug users' behavior for potential prosecution or treatment purposes. The directive seeks to ensure adherence to guidelines for handling drug users under the Narcotics Act.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, outlined the operational guidelines for either prosecuting or providing treatment to drug users, as per the resolution from the Narcotics Control Board (NCB) meeting held on July 3, 2026. Chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, the resolution tasked the Ministry of Interior, alongside agencies such as the Ministry of Public Health, the NCB, and the Royal Thai Police, to implement guidelines for verifying treatment history, behavior, and other relevant factors of drug users.
Mr. Arsit emphasized that the governors of all 76 provinces have been instructed to ensure administrative officials and police follow these guidelines. This involves scrutinizing the behavior of drug users who might pose a threat to others, such as engaging in hooliganism, causing disturbances, or having a history of violence. The gathered information will be compiled into case files for legal consideration by investigating officers, aligning with the integrated policy of "Relieving Suffering, Promoting Well-being, Upholding Peace and Order, Combating Drugs, and Conquering Hooligans."
