Mr. Ekkanat Promphan, Minister of Industry, visited Phachi and Uthai districts, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, to follow up on the resolution of the problem of illegal dumping of industrial waste in Phachi and Uthai districts. At the waste and hazardous substance storage warehouse in Phachi district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, approximately 4,000 tons of industrial waste were found to be illegally dumped around five hazardous waste storage warehouses, and there was an arson attack on May 1, 2024, causing the problem of pollution spreading. The Ministry of Industry, in collaboration with Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, has built an embankment to prevent leakage and chemical leaching during the rainy season. It has al so hired a waste disposal company to urgently treat and dispose of waste and hazardous substances with a budget of 6.9 million baht. The operation began on August 28, 2024 to initially alleviate the suffering of the villagers. As for Ekka Uthai Co., Ltd., Uthai district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, which was found dumping waste in front of the factory area, there were traces of dumping liquids that were hazardous substances with concentrated acidity all over the factory area. Currently, the Ministry of Industry has revoked the factory operating license, prosecuted, and ordered the company to Take the waste and hazardous substances to be disposed of and treated properly. However, to prevent problems and alleviate the suffering of the villagers, an earthen embankment was built to prevent leakage and chemical leaching during the rainy season. A disposal company was hired to urgently treat and dispose of the waste and hazardous substances with a budget of 4 million baht, starting from September 13, 2024 to initially alleviate the suffering of the villagers. 'The Ministry of Industry is committed to solving the problem of illegal dumping of industrial waste throughout the system by improving relevant laws and regulations to prevent and solve the problem quickly, thoroughly, and comprehensively, including providing relief to those affected as well as restoring the environment in the long term. Currently, we are expediting the drafting of laws for the management of industrial waste and e-waste, and establishing a fund for industrial reform. In addition, the Ministry of Industry will conduct inspections and supervision to prevent and solve the problem of illegal dumping of industrial waste proactively using digital technology by strictly enforcing the law, inspecting, supervising, ordering, and revoking licenses.
