Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya:The Ministry of Culture is set to restore temples and historical sites, with plans for long-term flood protection measures.
According to Thai News Agency, Minister Sabida Thaiseth, accompanied by Ms. Puttiporn Ploypakwan, Deputy Governor of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, and other officials, visited Phak Hai District to support flood victims, distributing relief supplies in Ayutthaya and Ang Thong.
In the flood-affected Ban Yai Subdistrict, Phak Hai District, the Ministry prepared 500 relief packages for residents near Wat Yaan Ang Thong. The aid aims to alleviate immediate suffering while floodwaters persist.
The team also assessed damage at temples in Ang Thong Province, which house significant historical artifacts. The Ministry's Fine Arts Department plans to allocate emergency funds for repairs and restoration once floodwaters recede. This includes repairing walls, drainage systems, and walkways around key sites.
Furthermore, the Ministry will seek additional funding to construct flood barriers and a drainage system, partnering with the Department of Public Works and Town Planning. A flood barrier along the Noi River is proposed to protect the surrounding community and temples from future flooding.
The Ministry of Culture emphasizes the importance of supporting communities during disasters, highlighting the role of temples and religious sites as centers of community assistance and encouragement.
