Minister Visits Mae Klong Dam to Address Rainfall Concerns

Kanchanaburi:Naphinthorn Srisarppang, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, visited the Mae Klong Dam in Tha Muang District to discuss water management strategies amid forecasts of heavy rainfall from October 4 to 14. The visit aims to ensure preparedness in handling the expected weather conditions across the Phetchaburi River basin.

According to Thai News Agency, Naphinthorn emphasized the importance of 24-hour monitoring and confirmed that governors in the affected regions are ready to manage the situation. The Mae Klong Dam, which is a diversion dam rather than a reservoir, affects Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Samut Songkhram provinces through the Mae Klong River basin.

The minister highlighted the need for contingency plans to mitigate the impact of prolonged rainfall on residents. He noted that the heaviest rainfall is anticipated on October 8, with approximately 111 millimeters expected, posing challenges both within and outside the dam area.

Regarding the Phetchaburi River basin, Naphinthorn pointed out that the Kaeng Krachan Dam is currently overflowing, releasing about 130 cubic meters of water per second. While the Phetchaburi River can handle this flow, further discussions are needed to decide on potential adjustments to water releases should rainfall increase. The province is reportedly equipped with a comprehensive plan to tackle the situation.
