Bangkok: The Minister of Justice has disclosed that two provincial councilors connected to an online gambling website have fled the country, as investigations into the case progress. Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol Naowarat, the Minister of Justice, stated that while the names of Mr. Pathanun Chandon and his wife have been linked to the case, a third individual cannot be named as no arrest warrant has been issued. The minister emphasized that investigations into 10 parliamentary candidates are ongoing and assured that the inquiry is not politically driven.
According to Thai News Agency, Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol confirmed the issuance of arrest warrants for Mr. Pathanun Chandon, a member of the Kalasin Provincial Administrative Organization Council, and his wife, noting that they have already left the country. Another Provincial Council member has also fled. Authorities are currently analyzing data to collect evidence against the network involved in the online gambling operation.
Addressing the unnamed third individual, Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol explained that disclosing the name prior to an arrest warrant could result in legal complications. He refrained from commenting on any potential political connections but assured that thorough investigations are underway.
The minister also addressed claims involving 10 politicians, explaining that the investigation is still active. He provided an example where a search warrant was issued for a Provincial Council member's house in Kalasin province, but lack of evidence prevented an arrest warrant from being issued. This decision was made to maintain fairness and avoid political accusations. In the case of Council member Nay, arrest warrants were requested twice, but the court dismissed the first request due to insufficient evidence, reflecting the justice system's commitment to fairness for all parties involved.
