Bangkok: The National Mine Action Center has released a detailed report concerning the dissemination of misleading information following an incident where a Thai military personnel stepped on an anti-personnel mine on July 16, 2025. The Thai agency is taking steps to rectify the situation by clarifying facts and countering claims made by Cambodia. According to Thai News Agency, the National Mine Action Center issued an initial statement to highlight key facts, asserting that the mines discovered were located within Thai territory and were not of the type used by the Thai military. Moreover, investigations have revealed that these anti-personnel mines were newly planted, contradicting Cambodian claims. To further the dissemination of accurate information, the Center is leveraging media outlets, including Facebook and official websites, to ensure widespread public understanding. This strategy involves continuous updates and news presentations by various agencies. The National Mine Action Center has also eng aged in outreach efforts by sending a comprehensive statement to 10 relevant organizations within the Humanitarian Mine Action Network. These include ambassadors from Norway, Switzerland, and Azerbaijan to Thailand, as well as organizations like the Humanitarian Mine Clearance Research and Development Project, the US Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, and the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining. The communication aims to foster correct interpretations and mutual understanding among international partners. In response to Cambodian media reports featuring images and videos accusing the Thai military of planting new mines, the National Mine Action Center issued a second statement. This statement, like the first, has been distributed through Facebook, websites, and various news outlets to set the record straight.
