Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for residents along the east and west coasts of southern Thailand, warning of heavy to very heavy rain in isolated areas. This weather pattern is expected to impact the Eastern and Western Southern regions, while the Northern, Northeastern, Central, and Eastern Southern regions are also predicted to experience heavy rain in some areas.
According to Thai News Agency, the affected provinces include Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, and Phang Nga. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant against the potential dangers posed by the heavy rain, which could lead to flash floods and mudslides, especially on hillsides near waterways and in low-lying areas. The adverse weather conditions are attributed to a monsoon trough extending across the upper Northern region and into a low-pressure area over northern Vietnam, coupled with a strengthening southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The Andaman Sea is experiencing strong waves, with heights reaching 2-3 meters in the upper areas, and exceeding 3 meters in regions with thunderstorms. The Gulf of Thailand and the lower Andaman Sea are seeing waves around 2 meters high, with increased heights in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Boat operators in these regions are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas affected by thunderstorms, while small vessels in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore.
In Bangkok and its vicinity, a 60% chance of thunderstorms is anticipated, with some areas expected to receive heavy rain. Temperatures are forecast to range from a minimum of 26-27 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 34-36 degrees Celsius.
