Hat yai: MEA has joined forces with engineering agencies to assist flood victims in the southern region by inspecting electrical systems and structural integrity of homes, Hat Yai Hospital, and schools to minimize electrical risks and ensure maximum safety before power is restored.
According to Thai News Agency, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), in collaboration with the Thai Volunteer Engineers Foundation, Prince of Songkla University, the National Housing Authority, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, the Provincial Electricity Authority, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, the Building Inspectors Association, and the Department of Public Works and Town and Country Planning, organized the "Restoring, Repairing Electrical and Lighting Systems and Inspecting House Damage in the South" project at the Faculty of Engineering, Prince of Songkla University, Songkhla Province, from December 5-9, 2025. The project aims to inspect the structural stability of buildings and electrical systems for residents in the southern region, following the launch of the MEA Volunteer Engineer Caravan on December 4, 2025. MEA mobilized a team of over 30 specialized technicians equipped with modern equipment to deploy to critical areas in advance to prepare and expedite restoration.
Mr. Pisanu Tantithaworn, Deputy Governor of the MEA, revealed that the main mission this time will focus on in-depth inspections of the electrical system, including plugs, switches, and breakers, as well as structural strength, such as pillars, beams, and floors, that may have been damaged by flooding. This will cover both residential homes and important locations, such as Hat Yai Hospital, Mitraphap Samakkhi Hospital, and local schools. This will promote proper use of electricity, reduce the risk of electrical hazards, and ensure maximum safety before power is restored to the system.
MEA is ready to provide full support, including expert personnel, tools, and engineering-standard equipment, to ensure a rapid and high-quality power system restoration. This will ensure that the public and public service agencies can safely resume operations and daily life as quickly as possible.
