Maris Makes Strategic Visit to Sweden After Seven-Year Hiatus

Stockholm: "Maris" made his first official visit to Sweden in seven years, moving forward to enhance the strategic partnership, promoting cooperation with the European Union, and leading Thailand towards a "Green Economy".

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Maris Sngiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, arrived in Stockholm, Sweden, on an official visit from August 24-26, 2025. This visit marks his first ministerial visit in seven years and includes the signing of the Thailand-Sweden Strategic Partnership.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs revealed that the primary objective of this visit is to elevate relations to a strategic partnership, enhancing the potential for cooperation between Thailand and Sweden in various areas. The aim is to develop cooperation into a comprehensive strategy for the shared goal of sustainable development.

Sweden, a member of the European Union and part of the Nordic region, plays a crucial role in numerous dimensions, including academics, science, technological development, and agricultural expertise. The focus is on promoting smart farming and understanding the transition to green agriculture, minimizing environmental impact.

The Thai government, led by Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra, prioritizes its Green Transition policy to guide Thailand towards a green economy and green technology. Next year, the European Union is set to establish trade and investment qualifications based on clean technology and energy. This Green Transition encompasses diverse resolutions to develop Thailand into a strategic partner, covering areas like green finance, green energy, green communities, as well as AI and digital economy development.
