Man Arrested in Bangkok for Attempting to Extract Gold from Bitcoin Circuit Boards

Bangkok: A young man was apprehended by Sai Mai police for transporting a large quantity of Bitcoin circuit boards, which he claimed were intended for gold extraction. The 32-year-old man, identified as Thanapong, was stopped while driving a pickup truck loaded with hundreds of these circuit boards along Phetkasem Road in the Sai Mai District of Bangkok.

According to Thai News Agency, Thanapong informed the authorities that he bought the circuit boards for 50,000 baht with the intention of melting them to extract gold for resale. However, he failed to provide any documentation or information about the source of purchase. The police conducted a background check, which revealed that he had four outstanding warrants from the Sukhothai Provincial Court related to theft.

The authorities seized the Bitcoin circuit boards and are moving forward with prosecuting Thanapong. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the misuse of technology and the legal challenges in addressing such activities.
