Chonburi: A 38-year-old man was arrested after allegedly going berserk and fatally striking a coworker on the head with a hammer in a shocking incident that unfolded in front of a convenience store in the Ban Kao Subdistrict of Chonburi Province. The accused, identified as Wiwat, claimed his actions were driven by anger over his coworker's refusal to assist with the workload, leaving him to toil alone under the scorching sun.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident was captured on CCTV footage, which showed Wiwat entering a noodle shop before attacking his coworker with a hammer, causing customers to flee in panic. The footage also depicted the efforts of more than ten officers and concerned bystanders as they struggled to subdue the enraged man.
Police at Phan Thong Police Station received a report of the violent act and immediately coordinated with the Sawang Uthayan Thammasathan Phan Thong rescue team to respond to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of 28-year-old Nattawat inside the noodle shop, with evidence of severe head trauma. The hammer used in the attack was found discarded nearby, amidst overturned noodle tables.
During questioning, Wiwat confessed to the crime, explaining that he and the victim were colleagues. On the day of the incident, he was setting up the shop outside in the intense heat, while the victim remained inside, focusing on preparing noodles and arranging tables. This perceived lack of support reportedly fueled Wiwat's anger, leading to the fatal altercation. He also admitted to using drugs prior to the confrontation.
