Chiang mai: A large tree fell across the road leading up to Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, damaging several vehicles. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the incident caused a traffic jam stretching over 1 kilometer.
According to Thai News Agency, the road leading up to Doi Suthep, near the Khun Kan curve or sharp bend before reaching Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, was blocked after a large tree fell, obstructing both ascent and descent. All types of vehicles were unable to pass, causing a large number of tourist vehicles to be stranded and resulting in a traffic jam stretching over 1 kilometer. The incident occurred around noon today (September 1st). At the time of the incident, employees of the National Telecommunications Company Limited (NT) who were working in the area were also affected when the tree fell on their vehicle, but fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities.
Following the incident, local residents of Doi Suthep and tourists passing through the area joined forces to use chainsaws to cut down the tree and remove it from the road surface. The road has now been reopened. The cause is believed to be continuous rainfall over several days, which saturated the soil and caused the dead tree to fall.
