Landslide Threatens Ban Doi Tiu School in Nan Province

Nan province: Ban Doi Tiu School is facing a critical situation as a landslide spreads to the school building. The landslide at the school in Tha Wang Pha District has become increasingly concerning after a soil collapse over 100 meters impacted several structures, including the kindergarten building, during ongoing rainfall. Teachers have reported near-daily landslides, with another occurring early this morning, raising alarms about the safety of over 300 students and teachers.

According to Thai News Agency, the Governor of Nan Province was present at the site to monitor the situation and stressed the necessity of upgrading safety measures. Discussions are ongoing about the potential demolition of buildings in high-risk areas, as it remains uncertain whether the ground will continue to shift. Access to the high-risk area is currently restricted, with zoning and safety barriers in place. In response, the school is implementing on-the-job learning, distributing worksheets for home completion, and preparing temporary buildings. Coordination with the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) is underway to explore options for a new school location in the future.
