Korat Zoo’s Pygmy Hippo Baby Named “Moo Daeng” After Massive Voting

Bangkok: The baby pygmy hippo at the Korat Zoo has been officially named "Nong Moo Daeng" (Little Red Pig) following an impressive turnout of 350,000 votes from the public.

According to Thai News Agency, the Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo recently announced the outcome of their naming contest for the zoo's one-month-old pygmy hippo calf. The zoo's director, Mr. Thanachon Kensingh, shared that out of more than 370,000 votes, the name "Moo Daeng" (Red Pig) emerged as the favorite, garnering over 350,000 votes.

Nong Moo Daeng is a female pygmy hippo, born to parents Moo Krob and Khun Nun on March 22nd. Moo Krob was relocated from Khao Kheow Open Zoo in 2024 to breed with Khun Nun, who was transferred from Chiang Mai Zoo. Notably, Moo Krob is the elder sister of "Moo Deng," a renowned pygmy hippo with global admiration, making Nong Moo Daeng a niece to the famous Moo Deng.
