Bangkok: Renowned saxophonist Ko Mr. Saxman, also known as Ko Sekpol, performed the royal compositions “Athit Ap Saeng” and “Yam Yen” on Channel 9 to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother and express gratitude for the inspiration he received from His Majesty King Rama IX.
According to Thai News Agency, Ko Mr. Saxman spoke about the profound honor of performing in the presence of King Rama IX and the Queen Mother, describing it as the pinnacle of his artistic journey. He recalled the kindness in His Majesty’s smile and the immense pride he felt as a Thai musician serving the royal family. Ko emphasized that King Rama IX’s compositions served as a guiding influence throughout his career, comparable to essential music exercises for Western musicians.
Ko shared that, during his childhood, he eagerly awaited royal compositions on television, which he considered invaluable gifts from King Rama IX. His performances worldwide consistently began with a royal composition, presented as a tribute to the Thai monarch. The memory of the Queen Mother playing her piano remains a particularly touching image for Ko.
Upon learning of the Queen Mother’s passing, Ko was deeply affected and resolved to create a song in her memory, collaborating with fellow musicians to honor their legacy.
