Bangkok: His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen attended religious ceremonies at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall, Grand Palace, to mark the 100th day since the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
According to Thai News Agency, the royal couple participated in a series of religious rites, including lighting incense and candles at various altars, as part of the 100-day memorial service for Queen Sirikit. The ceremony was also attended by His Royal Highness Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti Mahavajirotthamangkura Siri Vibulyarajakumara, Chao Khun Phra Sineenath Pilaskalyani, and several royal family members including Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak.
The Supreme Patriarch, His Holiness Somdej Phra Ariyavongsakhatayan, administered the precepts during the ceremony, which included blessings from 30 monks. His Majesty the King also offered food to the Supreme Patriarch and senior monks, while Privy Councilors and senior officials distributed additional offerings.
As part of the ceremony, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen conducted the traditional pouring of ceremonial water, with monks chanting prayers and offering blessings. The ceremony involved the distribution of 93 sets of monastic robes, corresponding to Queen Sirikit’s age, to the monks.
The proceedings continued with paying respects at the altar and royal coffin, and lighting incense and candles on the funeral rites platform. The previous day, the King and Queen laid wreaths in front of the royal coffin, and various musical instruments were played as a tribute. The Supreme Patriarch presided over the religious ceremony, with 30 monks chanting Buddhist prayers.
The King also lit a candle for the sermon, which was delivered by Phra Phromsenabodi, the abbot of Wat Pathum Khongkha, and presented offerings and gifts to the monks. The ceremony concluded with the King and Queen paying respects at the altar and royal coffin, with monks chanting Abhidhamma prayers.
To commemorate the occasion, His Majesty the King bestowed upon attendees a set of eight books highlighting the benevolence and contributions of Queen Sirikit to the Thai people.
