Nakhon Nayok:Khun Dan Dam is currently operating at nearly 94% capacity, releasing 3 million cubic meters of water daily in response to heavy rainfall.
According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Irrigation Department has been increasing the water discharge from Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam through the spillway since 800 AM today. The release rate rose from 1.28 million cubic meters per day to 3 million cubic meters per day to manage water levels in anticipation of further heavy rains. Officials have assured that this will not impact downstream areas but advised caution for those engaging in activities along the river.
The Khun Dan Prakan Chon Irrigation and Maintenance Project reported that as of September 24, 2026, the dam contained 210.50 million cubic meters of water, equating to 93.97% of its 224 million cubic meter capacity. The province remains vigilant for additional rainfall that could increase water inflow into the dam.
Water is being released into the Nakhon Nayok River, also known as Tha Dan Canal, to lower the reservoir levels and prepare for potential flooding. The Royal Irrigation Department has assured that the discharge will not affect downstream regions. The water release will be adjusted as necessary, with continuous monitoring of downstream areas.
Residents living downstream and those involved in river activities are urged to remain cautious and stay informed through relevant agency updates. The department will halt discharge through the spillway if conditions normalize, while continuously keeping track of rainfall, water inflow, and downstream conditions to manage the situation effectively.
