Khon Kaen: Residents of Khon Kaen are eagerly anticipating the receipt of 10,000 baht following the government's approval of Phase 2 of an economic stimulus program targeting senior citizens aged 60 and above. However, the initiative faces hurdles as some villagers encounter difficulties with registration, primarily due to a lack of smartphones and technological expertise. According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Boonchuay Weluwanat, a 62-year-old resident of Nong Bua Thong Village in Khok Si Subdistrict, is among those eligible for the financial aid. She shared that she began the registration process as soon as the program was announced, despite uncertainties surrounding the distribution of funds. Currently, her application is in the third stage of rights verification, as shown on the government application. Ms. Boonchuay expressed optimism that the initiative would boost the economy and plans to use the money for essential household items. She highlighted the challenges within her community, where many lack smar tphones and the knowledge to register, leading to missed opportunities. She urged the government to deploy teams to assist villagers directly rather than requiring them to visit banks. For others like Ms. Pluem Kaewsai, a 76-year-old from Ban Khok Si, the absence of a mobile phone has kept her uninformed about the registration process. She learned of the program only after neighbors received their funds. Despite not qualifying for the state welfare card due to owning rice fields and property, she hopes to benefit from Phase 2. Ms. Pluem intends to use the funds to support herself, addressing losses from rice farming and outstanding bank debts. She appealed to government agencies to better inform and assist those in remote areas to ensure all eligible individuals receive the aid they deserve. The plight of many seniors in Khon Kaen, who lack smartphones and technological knowledge, highlights a significant barrier to accessing government support. As farmers, they often remain isolated from crucial informatio n, underscoring the need for targeted outreach and assistance.
