Bangkok: Khattiya Sawatdiphon, a Pheu Thai Party list MP and member of the special committee on constitutional amendments, has raised concerns over the progress of constitutional amendments following the collapse of a recent meeting. The meeting was canceled due to the absence of many senators and low attendance from government MPs.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Khattiya posted on X after the quorum failed, questioning the timing of the constitutional amendment process. She highlighted the lack of participation when it was time to vote on moving the consideration forward. Notably, some senators opted to leave the meeting room, while others were absent altogether. Meanwhile, only a minimal number of government MPs attended, with just two from Ang Thong present, reportedly due to flooding in the area.
The meeting's quorum fell short at only 20 members, making it impossible to proceed with a vote. Ms. Khattiya expressed her frustration, questioning the common sense behind the actions of committee members and ultimately declaring an end to the session with the statement, "The end!!! Go home."
