Jiraphop Vows Thailand Will Not Surrender to Scammers

Bangkok: Police are preparing to conduct surveillance raids in Cambodia and will use global pressure to force cooperation. Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Phuridet, Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, revealed after the 43rd ASEAN Police Chiefs’ Meeting that Thailand is preparing for serious discussions with Cambodia to cooperate in cracking down on transnational call center gangs. The idea is to send Thai police officers to Cambodia to observe and exchange in-depth information. While they will not have direct arrest powers, they will work closely together to enhance the effectiveness of online crime suppression.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop stated that if Cambodia does not cooperate, Thailand will use the “power of the global community” to pressure, as the scam problem does not only affect Thailand but is spreading worldwide. He emphasized that Thailand does not have a large-scale scammer network, only small-scale infiltrators. He added that whenever information from abroad is received, Thailand is ready to immediately arrest them.

Thailand will gradually submit information and evidence to Cambodia, with the primary focus being on practical cooperation. Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop reiterated that “even if you are deceived, you must fight back,” as this is a global crime that requires the cooperation of all countries to ultimately end cyber threats.
