Bangkok: The House of Representatives meeting descended into chaos as the chairman, Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, ordered a break after a deadlock over the agenda. The meeting, chaired by Mr. Paradorn, Second Deputy Speaker of the House, faced a stalemate when an urgent motion on earthquake management clashed with a proposed reordering of the Entertainment Venue Act.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, Leader of the Prachachon Party and Leader of the Opposition, initiated an urgent motion to address the systematic management of earthquake impacts, urging the House to forward measures to the Cabinet. Concurrently, Mr. Anusorn Aimsa-ard from the Pheu Thai Party proposed deferring the Entertainment Venue Act’s consideration, intensifying the conflict.
The call for prioritization sparked protests from opposition MPs, leading to suggestions for a vote to determine the sequence of discussions. Mr. Atthakorn Sirilatthakorn from the Klatham Party urged cooperation between Prachachon and Pheu Thai to advance both issues together, but Mr. Rangsiman Rome of the Prachachon Party underscored the urgency of the earthquake matter.
Dr. Cholanat Srikaew from the Pheu Thai Party highlighted prior discussions on the earthquake issue, suggesting postponement of the Entertainment Venue Act. He emphasized the necessity of addressing urgent motions collaboratively, advocating for a vote to resolve the impasse, while Mr. Pakornwut Udompipatsakul, Chief Whip of the Opposition, expressed concerns about procedural integrity.
Mr. Akaradet Wongpitakroj from the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party echoed the urgency of the earthquake issue, advocating for it to precede entertainment business discussions. Mr. Nattawut Buaprathum from Prachachon reinforced this, proposing the earthquake motion as a priority, with subsequent consideration of the Entertainment Venue Act.
Despite attempts at resolution, including a suggestion by Mr. Paradorn to vote on the competing motions, disagreements persisted. Mr. Rangsiman insisted on separate consideration of each motion, highlighting the need for a clear decision without negotiations. The inability to reach a consensus led Mr. Paradorn to call a 10-minute recess for further discussion between the opposition and government factions.
