House Energy Committee to Investigate EEC Solar Farm Project

Manila:The House Energy Committee is preparing to summon officials for explanations regarding the 23 billion baht solar farm project in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), following concerns over the absence of an e-bidding process.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Supol Chulsai, Chairman of the House of Representatives' Energy Committee, emphasized the need to investigate whether family connections of a high-ranking former Interior Minister provided any unfair advantage in the project. The project, which is under scrutiny by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), is significant for the country's clean energy future.

Mr. Supol highlighted the importance of ensuring transparency and fairness in large-scale projects to prevent missed opportunities for the public and businesses. He stressed the need to investigate the reasons behind the lack of electronic competitive bidding, which has led to accusations of favoritism.

He clarified that while the absence of e-bidding does not automatically imply corruption, transparency in the selection process is crucial. The criteria used, the approval process, and the benefits to the state must be clearly explained, especially given the project's 23 billion baht investment.

Regarding concerns about connections between a private company and SPCG, managed by Mrs. Wandee Kunchornyakong Chulacharoen, the wife of a former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Supol stated that investigations should focus on facts and evidence rather than personal relationships.

The committee intends to invite relevant agencies and private sector entities to provide clarification. Coordination with the NACC to examine the selection process is planned, with invitations to those involved expected after the no-confidence debate concludes. Mr. Supol assured that the committee will conduct its duties transparently to protect national and public interests.
