Bangkok: The National Water Resources Management Committee (NWRC) has issued a warning for potential high tides from August 25-29, which could pose a risk of flooding in low-lying areas along the Chao Phraya River in Samut Prakan, Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Pathum Thani provinces.
According to Thai News Agency, the anticipated rise in water levels is attributed to increased rainfall in central Thailand, which is expected to be heavy to very heavy during this period. The situation could be exacerbated by the strengthening southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, leading to stronger waves and winds.
The National Water Resources Office (NWRO) has highlighted the risk posed by the combination of high tides and increased rainfall, which could result in flooding in areas particularly vulnerable along the riverbanks. These areas include communities outside flood barriers and regions lacking permanent flood protection measures.
The NWRC has urged relevant agencies in the affected provinces to remain vigilant and closely monitor the situation, in order to prepare and implement mitigation strategies to minimize potential impacts on residents in these vulnerable regions.
